Something a little different…

For my latest painting I wanted to take a break from bugs and other little creatures. So I set up a little still life instead. I think I have had this in mind ever since I spent time working in the wine store last year. This is also the first full-scale water color I have done since middle school. I’m more a fan of acrylic painting, but I could learn to like this too…

I also think this little thumbnail watercolor sketch of my eye came out perfectly:

Walking on Water

The mysteries of the water bug revealed….

This was hand painted in acrylic, then imported into Adobe Illustrator to make the graphics. I studied the bug under the microscope and made tons of sketches and layouts until I came up with this:

colored pencil

Here are my 2 most recent colored pencil pieces on a drafting film called Duralene. I am very happy with both. =)

An abalone shell. Conquering iridescence.

And a peacock. Conquering insane patterning AND iridescence.

I think the abalone looks really good when its really far away…

Color

So begins another semester and already I am permanently attached to my desk. This semester we begin our foray into the world of color. Here are a few sketches I have done so far:apple_smaller

This is from the first 3 days of class, so I am sure there will be plenty more work to come soon.
