Sneak Preview

Here where I found cell phone service today. This is my favorite trail to hike; it is so beautiful and has a great view of Split Mountain. Its called the “Sounds of Silence.”

And here is a sneak preview of a portion of my mural… The dinosaurs have been the easy part; its the plants that are taking the most time and thought. I have 2 more weeks to finish, and then I am back home to Raleigh!

Lately…

So I finally have my paints and the mural begins! In the meantime I have been doing a lot of black & white work like this:femur_smallerThis is an illustration of a dinosaur fossil that has been left in the rock along the “fossil discovery trail”

And this is a picture is from a recent hike on a day off. It is 4 miles out through desert wasteland until these massive canyons appear at the end, making the trek worth while:

Edmontosaurus

This is an Edmonotsaurus- a type of “duck-billed” dinosaur. Its done in acrylic. I’m so tired thats all I have to say about it. This wore me out. =)

colored pencil

Here are my 2 most recent colored pencil pieces on a drafting film called Duralene. I am very happy with both. =)

An abalone shell. Conquering iridescence.

And a peacock. Conquering insane patterning AND iridescence.

I think the abalone looks really good when its really far away…

America through a car window

I recently completed the trip across the U.S. from Raleigh NC to Santa Cruz CA with my parents. It took only 4.5 days, but we saw it all. Here are some highlights:

Visit to Santa Cruz

I found a wonderful one bedroom apartment in Santa Cruz! Some of the many wonderful things about it: its about two blocks to downtown, in a wonderful Victorian neighborhood, huge back porch up in the trees, about a 15 minute walk to the beach, a farmers market right down the street, a wine store and Urban Outfitters right around the corner, etc. etc. I couldn’t think of a more perfect place. It is exactly what I dreamed for. See the buildings up in the trees?:
Thats where I’ll be. Some more photos from my trip:

The California coast.

Me atop Mt. Diablo.

Sea gulls in a Monterey park.

I will be leaving in just 3 short weeks!!!
